The Theater Offensive’s Out in Your Neighborhood: Stand Against Racism Event is our yearly initiative as part of the YWCA campaign that builds community among those who work for racial justice and raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in our communities.

This year we will are proud to present the world premiere staged reading of the play “Water in the Basement” by Puerto Rican playwright Leo Cabranes-Grant, directed by Josean Ortiz.

About the play:

Three men, abducted by vigilantes, find themselves trapped in a basement in the Arizona desert: a young undocumented Mexican, a Puerto Rican raised in Boston, and a Venezuelan born in California. “Water in the Basement” confronts racism, homophobia, and xenophobia in the lives of people living in the United States as walls, bans, immigrant as enemy and political violence become normalized.
