Shut Down White Supremacist Rally in Boston: Call the Mayor Monday

August 13, 2017 @ 2:00 pm – August 18, 2017 @ 4:00 pm
Boston, MA

Faine Gee

White supremacists are holding a rally at Boston Common on August 19th, which will include bigoted speakers present at Charlottesville. We need to pressure the city of Boston to shut this event down.

UPDATE: Per the Mayor’s Office, so far no permit has been issued for the event, but that doesn’t mean that the so-called “Boston Free Speech Rally” won’t be issued a permit before August 19th. The Cosplay Picnic which was permitted to take place at the same time and place has been postponed over safety concerns, leaving permits for the day, time, and place available. Keep the pressure up.

PLEASE NOTE: We are not organizing any sort of physical protest/counter event. This is simply urging you to call your elected officials.

On Monday, call Mayor Marty Walsh, city council members, Boston police, the Mass Attorney General, your state reps, and our Senators. Tell them you don’t want the hate we’ve seen in Charlottesville to spread here.

Here are phone numbers you can use:

Mayor Marty Walsh: 617-635-4500
Governor Charlie Baker: 888.870.7770, 617.725.4005
Office of the Police Commissioner: (617) 343-4500
City Council President Michelle Wu: 617-635-3115
Councilor Tito Jackson: 617-635-3510
Councilor Ayanna Pressley: 617-635-4217
Senator Elizabeth Warren (Boston office): 617-565-3170
Mass Attorney General Maura Healey: (617) 727-2200
Boston Police HQ (BPD Police Commissioner William Evans): 617-343-4500

Here’s a phone script you can use:

“I am calling to ask {INSERT POLITICIANS NAME HERE} to take action against the upcoming August 19th “Boston Free Speech Rally.” I am concerned that this bigoted rally will attract violent hate groups similar to those in Charlottesville who targeted and killed Heather Heyer, a peaceful counter-protestor. We do not want this in our city.

Please revoke the permit for this rally and issue a public statement condemning the white supremacist violence in Charlottesville.

This white supremacist event at the Boston Common will include speaker Gavin McInnes, who founded the bigoted “Proud Boys” organization that Charlottesville organizer Jason Kessler belongs to. It will include “Augustus Invictus,” a domestic abuser, racist, anti-Semite and “self-proclaimed god,” who was a featured speaker at the Charlottesville rally. They will be joined by Kyle Chapman, a thrice-convicted felon who was arrested at the violent Berkeley protests in March, and conspiracy theorist Cassandra Fairbanks.

We want you to help us prevent violence and fight back against bigots. Please take this rally seriously, and help keep Boston safe.”

Here is information confirming the rally is taking place, with details on speakers:

We also urge you to contact other local civic and religious leaders and ask them to condemn the hatred that this group stands for. Some suggestions include:
Archdiocese of Boston: 617-254-0100
Boston Massachusetts LDS Temple: (617) 993-9993
