Online Training: Critical First Aid in the Streets

June 16, 2020 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Online Event
Mayday Space

Join NYC Action Medical and Mayday Space for a free online training about providing first aid in protest situations. We will be offering live captioning, and participants will receive a follow-up email with resources. This training does not require any previous medical knowledge. (Note: If you are a medical professional, consider attending one of NYCAM’s online bridge trainings.)

We will cover topics like protesting during COVID, scene safety, activating EMS, hot weather ailments, bleeding control, spinal injuries, chemical weapons, and more. If you cannot attend the training, we will be offering more in the near future.

Please note that this is NOT a street medic training, which typically takes 20 hours and requires hands-on participation. If you are interested in becoming a street medic, be on the lookout when in-person trainings can occur again. Send a blank email to [email protected] to receive updates.

NYCAM is a collective of volunteer street medics active in New York City which began in 2016. We provide first aid and emergency care at protests, direct actions, and other sites of resistance and struggle. Our group contains volunteers with many levels of certification and from many scopes of practice (EMTs, nurses, Wilderness first aid, herbalists, etc) but all are 20-hour medic trained. We train other street medics and community members.

Mayday Space is a collectively-managed organizing and social hub for grassroots groups, neighborhood residents, artists and activists from across NYC (and beyond!) to hold classes, training, meetings, film screenings, retreats, conferences, art builds, and all-ages events on an affordable sliding scale. While our space is closed due to the COVID-19 crisis, we offer on-line programming and support mutual aid efforts on the ground. Inbox us if you want to get involved in planning other on-line events like this. DISCLAIMER: By RSVPing you understand that taking this training does NOT make you a street medic; instead you will learn about keeping yourself and others safe at actions.
