Men’s Work: Dismantling Patriarchy is a monthly 5-session workshop/discussion experience created to help men engage each other in learning, growth, detoxifying our masculinity and dismantling patriarchy. Each session is about 2.5 hours long and will feature numerous elements including current events/historical discussion regarding misogynoir/misogyny, sexism, heterosexism, intersectionality (how does race, class or ability figure in?), men’s violence and patriarchy, personal and emotional exploration, mind –bodywork and engagement of systemic and structural elements of patriarchy. The elements of these workshops are intended to create space within men for new political, cultural, social and personal awarenesses, vulnerability, expanded conceptions of strength and deepened relational capabilities.
(This is a new duplicate event post. The previous one was cancelled/deleted for this new, public event. Sorry for any inconvenience)
The 5 sessions will be held at the Democracy Center, Rosa Parks Room, 45 Mt. Auburn St., Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA USAmerica for the participation of 15-20 men on the following dates: 2/20, 3/20, 4/17, 5/15, 6/19. The sessions are offered at a sliding scale of $10-20. If there are men who feel strongly about participating for whom this range is difficult, please contact the facilitator ahead of time. It is expected that participants will make a commitment to attend all 5 sessions, though benefit can be gained if a session has to be missed. Full, consensual participation is also expected during the workshop experience and participants should be willing to address their own self-care, which can include facilitator and/or group engagement.
The Democracy Center is a partially accessible venue space. The Center has an access ramp, but it’s bathrooms are not yet fully accessible, though construction is still in the works. An accessible bathroom is located next door at the Daedalus Restaurant. The facilitator, along with the Democracy Center apologizes for this difficult inconvenience.
