On May 1st, 2017, we will host a day of action in celebration of immigrants and workers as part of International Workers’ Day. Community and immigrants’ rights organizations will mobilize thousands to call for an end to the Trump Administration’s mass deportation strategy. MIRA is part of a network called the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), a national coalition of organizations fighting for immigrant rights at the local, state, and federal level. As part of a national day of action on May 1st, we are going to Rise Up! to take risks for our coworkers and speak up for our classmates. It is our responsibility to accompany our neighbors and fight for families.

At a state level, MIRA is a part of the May Day Coalition that turns out in Chelsea, Everett, and East Boston. Together with the Chelsea Collaborative, La Comunidad, LUMA, and many other organizations, we are turning out our bases in support of immigrants and workers in MA. We will present a list of statewide demands that include the passage of the Safe Communities Act to protect immigrants and insure that our local law enforcement is not used to deport members of our community. We will also call for the passage of the $15/hour minimum wage law with no carve outs, and leave no worker behind.
