Have you heard that over 40,000 of our neighbors were convicted of drug offenses with tainted evidence from TWO drug lab scandals?

The highest court in MA forced prosecutors to dismiss 21,587 tainted convictions from the Hinton Lab Scandal in April. The ACLU of MA and the Committee for Public Counsel services have petitioned the court to dismiss thousands more cases from the Amherst Lab. A single Supreme Judicial Court justice will hear oral arguments on October 31.

We know the impacts of drug convictions on people include the trauma of incarceration, losing housing, losing custody of kids, deportation, struggling to find work with a CORI, and more. These drug lab scandals happened because we prosecute too many people for drugs in Massachusetts.

Community people have been organizing to demand full dismissal of all drug lab scandal cases. Many people still don’t know if they have an Hinton or Amherst lab case, and have not experienced any relief. On this call we’ll give the history of the Drug Lab scandals, what’s happening now, and organizing opportunities to move us toward justice and healing.
