In its 19th year (!!!) Jamaica Plain’s Latin American Cultural Family Network, La Piñata returns to Spontaneous Celebrations with their traditional Latin American Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration! A holiday remembering and connecting with family and friends who have passed on.
OUTSIDE, a traditional community altar (with fire) will be built, where all are welcome to come and remember/celebrate loved ones lost. As always, the fire ceremony will include traditional live music and dancing by the kids of La Piñata (www.LaPiñata.org). The fire ceremony focuses on departed loved ones and dates back to Meso American or Pre-Colombian times and is celebrated throughout Latin America.
INSIDE, there will be a marketplace of LOCAL & LATIN AMERICAN VENDORS offering you traditional and untraditional art, crafts, flowers, zines, terrariums, candles, pottery & more! Upstairs, grab some Mexican food and enjoy live dancing and music by Harvard University’s Ballet folklorico de Aztlan and Mariachi Veritas de Harvard.
We are still accepting vendors for this. Sign up at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/H88XNX8
